Trompette

At Magdalen college school in Oxford we revoiced the old Trumpet into a French Trompette by replacing the blocks, shallots and new tongues. Here we are finishing the revoicing of a Trompette with beaked shallots installed in the 1970's. Unfortunately, the bass octave had typical closed English shallots so the match was poor. We have completely re-tounged this stop with a calculated progression in brass thickness New blocks, shallots and tongues have been made for the bass octave.

Voicing

During November we have voiced two new quint Mixtures and a Sesquialtera for one of our organ building friends. The Sesquialtera was required to have a flute tone in the bass and tenor for French baroque music, gradually moving towards principal tone through the middle octave upwards for the North German repertoire.

Six Rank Pedal Mixture

Latest News: Six Rank Pedal Mixture

In the early part of 2017, we designed the scales for Shires Organ Pipes and currently in our workshop we are voicing the new pedal mixture of six ranks, for a private customer. The composition starts with a 5 1/3', the lowest pipe standing at six feet long with a generous scale. The composition carrys on from 5 1/3' - 4' - 2 2/3' - 2' - 1 1/3' - 1'. This is an exciting project to be involved in as this will be one of the only pedal mixtures of this composition in the British isles.

New Great Soundboard and tonal remodelling for Newmarket Roman Catholic Church

Latest News: New Great Soundboard and tonal remodelling for Newmarket Roman Catholic Church

During the latter part of 2016 we have completed the manufacture and instillation of a new Great soundboard and tonal remodelling to the Newmarket Catholic Church 1875 Lewis Organ. A truly remarkable organ positioned at the west end of this fine church and capable of leading a 400 strong congregation. In its gallery position it is able to project and luxuriate in the church's acoustics.

All pipework has been revoiced to promote musicality and the tonal changes have ensured that versatility can be achieved effectively, despite the modest size of the instrument. Many colours are now available and all of the stops provide in their own right as well as in chorus.

The tonal work has been carried out to realise the best of the Lewis pipework as well as augment with new. The Great chorus has had a new Principal and Fifteenth voiced to add...
